Starcraft 2 Game Development Costs Over 100 Million Dollars

starcraft-2-game-development-costs-over-100-million-dollars

I just read an article at Geek.com about how much it has cost Activision to create Starcraft II. The price? OVER 100 Million Dollars!

That’s ridiculous! Do they pay their employees 10x the normal wages or something? I’ve looked at previews for the game, as well as screen shots, and I just cannot comprehend why that much money was necessary for development. I mean…come on! Really…

Modern Warfare Bunnies

Found this Japanese CG series online, “Cat Shit One”. In a nutshell, Modern Warfare with anthropomorphic animals instead of people. This isn’t Saturday morning kid show crap though, this is actually pretty well done and funnily enough the opening presentation kinda resembles the beginning of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

“Cat Shit One” is based off of a three-volume manga series by Motofumi Kobayashi of the same name, although the manga was released in the United States under the name “Apocalypse Meow“. The setting of the manga was originally the Vietnam War, and the nationalities involved in the conflict were all given animal stand-ins (making for a uniquely Japanese form of hilariously innocent political incorrectness). That said, for the CG series, the creators updated the look with the modern-day parallel, the Middle Eastern conflicts.

Transformer Assembled from Junk

Via Engadget comes this snippet and rather breathtaking photo of a full-scale replica of Optimus Prime in his full Transformers film glory in China, apparently built completely from junk parts found in one of China’s many landfills.

Built totally from junk in Chinese landfills.

Don’t know whether this is more a testament to Chinese creativity or the sheer volume of crap in Chinese landfills. Probably the latter. Either way, it’s certainly greener than the nearest equivalent in Tokyo, Japan.

An astute blogger at CNET apparently sees the possibilities here too.

Next PS3 Firmware Adds Support for 3D Movies / Pictures

Uhuh! Sony recently released a firmware update for stereoscopic 3D game support, and now they’re going to expand on that further. Their aim? Support for 3D movies and 3D pictures! Hopefully it will work pretty well, otherwise it’ll be a bummer.

Science: Genetically-Engineered Blood Developed for Battlefield

Science really is progressing. Check out this excerpt from “Scientists develop ‘fake’ genetically-engineered blood for use on the battlefield”

American scientists have developed ‘artificial’ blood that could soon be used to treat wounded soldiers in battle.

The genetically-engineered blood is created by taking cells from umbilical cords and using a machine to mimic the way bone marrow works to produce mass quantities of usable units of red blood cells.

Known as ‘blood pharming’ the programme was launched in 2008 by the Pentagon’s experimental arm, Darpa, to create blood to treat soldiers in far-flung battlefields.

Pretty neat. Check out the full article Here.
