TorrentReactor Buys Russian Town for $148,000
Last Updated on Monday, 9 August 2010 06:54 Written by DarkKnightH20 Sunday, 8 August 2010 05:49
I found this to be both interesting and somewhat funny (in the sense that this is a Torrent website we’re talking about here, even if it’s a Russian-based torrent website). Apparently the well-known torrenting website TorrentReactor has bought a Russian town for $148,000 (4.5 million rubles). The town, formally known as Gar, was renamed to TorrentReactor. The money used to buy this town is being split between the residence of the town and is helping to fix up the local buildings there.
The town has a population of 214 and with TorrentReactor’s help, will have expanded internet access. Currently, they have only one PC with dial-up internet so the improvement would be greatly appreciated I’m sure. Besides, any town owned by a torrent website would need good internet access after all 😉 The town of Gar consists mostly of farmers who sell crops to survive.
It is unclear whether or not this is a joke for publicity or not. TorrentFreak has attempted to contact both sides of the party (the town of Gar as well as TorrentReactor), but has received no responses yet. It could easily be a joke, mind you, but if it’s not that sure will be interesting. TorrentFreak often does pranks so this could be one of them. It more than likely is.

Torrent Site Sends Condoms to Anti-Piracy Agencies
Last Updated on Saturday, 3 April 2010 03:00 Written by DarkKnightH20 Saturday, 3 April 2010 08:00
The torrent website known as Vertor has sent condoms accompanying a note to six different anti-piracy groups, which are listed as follows: MPAA, RIAA, IFPI, BREIN, BPI and BSA. The condom is a Vizit Overture aroma flavored condom for those who are wondering…and apparently sending these condoms is suppose to prove something — that . Regardless, it’s funny 🙂 Whether or not these condoms have holes in them is unknown, but the message in the note (pictured) makes it clear that they do not want these people to replicate. UPS tracking numbers are available to keep track of these packages being delivered.
More info on all of this can be read on the Vertor blog.

Borderlands DLC Secret Armory of General Knoxx Cracked and Leaked
Last Updated on Friday, 26 February 2010 03:18 Written by DarkKnightH20 Friday, 26 February 2010 02:37
Gearbox, the creators of the FPS RPG Borderlands, recently released the DLC / Add-on Pack called the Secret Armory of General Knoxx. It was released on the 25th, but already it has been not only leaked throughout the internet before then, but shortly after was already cracked. Crackers are getting faster and distribution via file downloading methods such as torrenting, HTTP file hosting websites (i.e. Rapidshare, Megaupload, Mediafire), and general p2p. Patch 1.30 is also out. This patch was released on the 25th for PC. That, too, has been cracked. This applies to not only the PC version, but also the Xbox 360 version and the Playstation 3 (PS3) version. Gearbox does an amazing job though. Support the developers — purchase the DLC legally! Want to read the changelog for patch 1.30?

Apple Rejects uTorrent iPhone App (uMonitor), Forced Underground Release
Last Updated on Sunday, 28 March 2010 03:10 Written by DarkKnightH20 Tuesday, 1 September 2009 12:00
This is an excerpt from TorrentFreak. For more information, the full article can be read Here. As for the application about to be mentioned, it can be found on Claudio’s Website along with a lot of other information pertaining to the app.
Apple is known for the stringent guidelines it applies when deciding which software it allows in their App Store – BitTorrent is one of the things on their ban list. Apple argues that BitTorrent is often used to infringe copyrights and that such applications are a no go for the App Store, forcing developers to go underground.
µMonitor is a handy iPhone application that allows users to control their uTorrent client on the go. After putting months of hard work into getting the software ready for a public release, the developer Claudio was told by Apple that everything related to BitTorrent has been banned from their App Store.
The app itself is actually pretty useful looking and has a nice, easy to use interface. I haven’t used it myself — so this is just judging by the screenshot — but it looks like a worthy download. It’s too bad that it was denied from the app store, but that’s to be expected since the reputation of Torrents and Torrenting are smudged by illegal use.
