Review: Medal of Honor (2010)

Title: Medal of Honor

EU Box Art

System: PC, Xbox 360, PS3

Release Date: 10/15/10 across all systems

Format: Digital Download, DVD, Blu-ray

Admittedly, I was always a fan of Medal of Honor not for the gameplay which it offered, but the stirring soundtrack to which I would be blowing digital Nazis away to. Arguably, this series is where Michael Giacchino built his career to the heights it is now, as the composer to movies like The Incredibles, Cloverfield, and the 2009 Star Trek reboot; at the same time, it could also be argued that it was a symbiotic relationship that benefited the MoH series as much as it did Giacchino. Moreso, perhaps, if you found the gameplay of the entries to the series pretty lackluster. Even then, there was still the prospect of revisiting the “good war,” a conflict that generations then and generations now view as a titanic struggle of good versus evil and that subsequent investigations into the European theater of operations would reveal such a notion to be not a long stretch from the truth.

Unfortunately, for the Medal of Honor of today’s generation, it lacks for a lot of these potential benefits, even foregoing some of the dynamic gameplay of MoH: Airborne which garnered the most positive reviews of the Medal of Honor games since 2003. This Medal of Honor game is short and doesn’t get up to speed until a lot later in the game. There are its bright spots– the game doesn’t lack for pretty light and sound and plays well– but that might just be all there is to offer from this title.

Justin Bieber…How you seem to keep popping up here on Geek Montage! So in our recently posted video of Justin — (Video: Justin Bieber Hit in Head With Water Bottle on Stage) — he was, as the title says, hit in the head with a water bottle. Someone on the internet end up getting a little bit creative, and decided to add him to Modern Warfare 2 in a pretty funny video (even if you haven’t played that game yet it’s still funny). Take a look at this game winning, Justin Bieber kill!

Modern Warfare Bunnies

Found this Japanese CG series online, “Cat Shit One”. In a nutshell, Modern Warfare with anthropomorphic animals instead of people. This isn’t Saturday morning kid show crap though, this is actually pretty well done and funnily enough the opening presentation kinda resembles the beginning of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

“Cat Shit One” is based off of a three-volume manga series by Motofumi Kobayashi of the same name, although the manga was released in the United States under the name “Apocalypse Meow“. The setting of the manga was originally the Vietnam War, and the nationalities involved in the conflict were all given animal stand-ins (making for a uniquely Japanese form of hilariously innocent political incorrectness). That said, for the CG series, the creators updated the look with the modern-day parallel, the Middle Eastern conflicts.

Infinity Ward sheds more developers

The fallout from the Jason West and Vince Zampella firings continues, as Infinity Ward studios now sees an exodus of its senior developers from the company.

Up to this point, Infinity Ward, owned by Activision, has now seen thirteen of its senior staff leave the company including West and Zampella.

Whether this means Modern Warfare will still continue to be able to be produced under Activision remains to be seen; if necessary, the other Activision-owned development house, Treyarch, can take over for much of the functions lost with the recent departures of Infinity Ward employees. Treyarch has been known for producing the odd-numbered titles in the Call of Duty series still hearkening back to the series’ roots as a World War II-themed shooter.
