Infinity Ward sheds more developers
Last Updated on Sunday, 18 April 2010 05:41 Written by servbot_kill Sunday, 18 April 2010 07:11
The fallout from the Jason West and Vince Zampella firings continues, as Infinity Ward studios now sees an exodus of its senior developers from the company.
Up to this point, Infinity Ward, owned by Activision, has now seen thirteen of its senior staff leave the company including West and Zampella.
Whether this means Modern Warfare will still continue to be able to be produced under Activision remains to be seen; if necessary, the other Activision-owned development house, Treyarch, can take over for much of the functions lost with the recent departures of Infinity Ward employees. Treyarch has been known for producing the odd-numbered titles in the Call of Duty series still hearkening back to the series’ roots as a World War II-themed shooter.

Fan-made Modern Warfare Short

Pretty damn well done for the grand total of $USD 209.42.
Yeah, pretty damn well done. Then again though, one has to wonder if they factored in the cost of those clothes and the airsoft guns they used, and if they did, what kind of quality did they get…
(I’m supposing for just filming purposes quality doesn’t really matter for airsoft guns :P)
UPDATE: New link for the video since the old one got taken down by copyright claim for some weird reason

Activision Nixes Infinity Ward Leads
Last Updated on Tuesday, 2 March 2010 05:07 Written by servbot_kill Tuesday, 2 March 2010 05:07
So if I were to tell you that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been one of Activision’s greatest successes as the owner of the developer Infinity Ward, you would all thank me, Captain Obvious, and then proceed to denigrate my mother.
Well, it seems that someone else has missed the memo. Behold, as Activision does the unthinkable and fires two of Infinity Ward’s lead developers on the Modern Warfare series: Jason West and Vince Zampella.
This is, for any fans of Modern Warfare, even ones that were irked by the lack of dedicated server support for Modern Warfare 2, a bit of difficult news to swallow. What fortunes now for the Call of Duty series? Activision still has a new Call of Duty title developed by Treyarch set to follow the Second World War, but for the Modern Warfare series, indeed, the entire progenitors of the Call of Duty series, the future seems a bit uncertain.
The motivations for the firing are uncertain. The SEC brief filed earlier cites “insubordination” by the two senior developers, but lacking exact details, it is difficult to say what the case is all about.

This year marks Treyarchs’ turn in the Call of Duty franchise, and most people are wondering: “What time period will it be set in?” The majority of the series has been set in the World War II era, and the Modern Warfare games are set in the present/future era. Now it seems, that a new era will be ushered: the Vietnam era.
