Holy $*#@! Batman! The sequel to the 2009 surprise hit, Batman: Arkham Asylum, has revealed three villains to the new title. In addition, Arkham Asylum 2 is revealed to be more “darker” than the previous installment.
Let’s start off with the characters: Two Face was “accidentally” revealed by Batman voice actor, Kevin Conroy. According to CVG, a fan “tricked” the actor into revealing the character for the new title. After the slip-up, he went on to say that:
“There’s a very complicated cast… a lot of villains are in it. I’ll just leave it at that!”
No voice actor was revealed to play Two Face.
Character number 2: Talia al Ghul, daughter of Batman Villain Ra’s al Ghul. She is set to be played by Stana Katic (Actress on TV’s Castle), who is also the person revealing the fact through Twitter last Friday:
“Just recorded a character voice on the next Batman video game…I’m voicing Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in ‘Batman Begins’).”
She took these tweets down immediately, but still were found through (The All-Mighty) Google by fans.
Character number 3: Mr. Freeze was announced by Maurice LaMarche (voice actor for Futurama’s Kif), as he told Geekcastradio that:
I’m about to go in and do Mr. Freeze for Arkham Asylum 2 … He’s out for blood right now because, err… I can’t tell you the situation, but he’s actually somewhat a sympathetic character within the framework of the game.
When asked on how his version of Mr. Freeze would sound like, he stated that:
“To tell you the truth, I think, contractually, I can’t. I’ve got to keep it under wraps.
Well, at least SOMETHING was kept hidden.
As for the darker tone of the game, going back to the Kevin Conroy interview, he stated that the game would take a “really, really dark” form:
“It involves a lot of the villains and it goes to that area – it’s that dark.”
With these three plus the Joker, it sure is looking up to be another great game from Rocksteady. It just leaves us more to wonder who the other characters might be. Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 is set to be released sometime 2011.
Editor’s Note: Got to love voice actors now-a-days. Mr. Freeze and Two Face are classic Batman character that everyone can recognize. The addition of Talia al Ghul is an interesting one, as she was a paramour to Batman, and also the father to her child, Damian Wayne (who later become the fifth Robin). Very interested to see how these and other villains will make the game darker.
