Step 3. Navigate to your Dead Rising 2 Folder (or any folder with the exe giving you the error).
Note: The default installation location of Dead Rising 2 is

If you have a 64bit OS: “C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Capcom\\Dead Rising 2” (no quotes)
or
If you have a 32bit OS: “C:\Program Files\\Capcom\\Dead Rising 2” (no quotes)

Step 4. Paste the msvcr100.dll into this folder.
Step 5. Run the game. It should work now.
Step 6. Now leave us a thank you comment and tell us if it solved your problem.

Method 2:

Step 1 (Optional). Another way to fix this error is to download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86).
Step 2. Now reboot and then try launching the game.

Method 3 :

Step 1. Download msvcr100.dll here. The password to the zip file is “https://geekmontage.com” (with no quotes)
These packages will also contain msvcr100.dll in them.
Step 2. Extract msvcr100.dll
Step 3. Navigate to your System32(32Bit OS) or SyWOW64(64Bit OS) Folder.
Note: The location of System32 or SyWOW64 is

C:\Windows\\System32 (If you are using 32Bit Windows)
C:\\Windows\\SysWOW64 (if you are using 64Bit Windows)

Step 4. Paste the msvcr100.dll into this folder.
Step 5. Run the game. It might work now.
Step 6. Now leave us a thank you comment and tell us if it solved your problem.

Method 4 – Courtesy of DarkKnightH20
1. Go to start -> run -> cmd (or command), or press windows+r and type in command or cmd
2. Type REGSVR32 “C:\\Program Files\\Capcom\\Dead Rising 2\\msvcr100.dll” (with quotes around DLL path)
3. You have registered the DLL file so your computer knows where it is. Most people do not have to do this, however. Be sure to adjust the path accordingly depending on where you placed the DLL file.

Note that the new DLC Off the Record is now out and about! So that should be fun as well.

    Hey man.
ok, i’ll try it out, i’ll let you know in 10 minutes (i doubt it’ll work though.. some guy had to do a format to get the installations to work. my guess is a corrupted registry..)

  11. Comments  Marc   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 3:51 PM

Oh and, PS: just finished a repair installation of windows. so if it’s corrupted system files, the installation SHOULD work now.

  12. Comments  Marc   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 4:01 PM

ok man, that solution is not working + a repair installation of windows won’t work either…

  13. Comments  Naota   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 4:23 PM

If you think it is the registry, try downloading Registry Mechanic. Maybe the trial will fix it.

  14. Comments  Naota   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 4:54 PM

Hey Marc I have a few more things for you to try. This is an edit to the directions from here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/908fad3e-f9fc-4d8a-be83-ae7d3bc48db5

I experienced the Installation Error 0x80070643. However I noted the following differences between your listed steps and my eventual solution:

The install log was located on my system in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Security Essentials\Support\ not in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Security Essentials\Support as listed in your workaround. I am running Windows XP so it may be a XP vs Vista/Win7 difference.

I did not have a C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop folder so I manually created the folder then ran the CALCS commands and then the install. The install did put the icon for MSE in the folder. (I have a hunch that the fact that the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop folder did not exist and was not created by the install was the reason that the install failed.)

Also I ran the CALCS commands in a command window (Start -> Run -> Command) instead of pasting the commands directly into the Start -> Run box. When I entered those commands in the command window I was asked “Are you sure (Y/N)?” and I had to enter a “Y” for the command to run.

I am running Windows XP Home SP3 on a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop.

    ————-
    Fix 2
    ————-

The lack of the All Users\Desktop folder was the cause of my error.
I was also receiving the 0x80070643 error message after it would validate my windows during the install.
I am running a windows Xp home SP3.
I re-created the Desktop folder in the All Users directory, then ran the installation again and it installed successfully.

Lol your welcome! =) Were you missing msvcr100 or did one of the other solutions help you? Regardless I hope you enjoy the game! =P

  17. Comments  DarkKnightH20   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 5:38 PM

If it isn’t working for you, then you may have to register the DLL.

Go to start -> run -> cmd (or command)

    And type in–

    REGSVR32 “C:Program Files\Capcom\Dead Rising 2\msvcr100.dll”

This causes the DLL to become registered so that your computer knows where it is. Most people do not have to do this, however. Be sure to adjust the path accordingly depending on where you placed the DLL file.

  18. Comments  Marc   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 7:04 PM

    Hey man,

hmm that comment you’ve written is from that page, which means it’s related to Microsoft security insallations, not to Dead Rising 2…
so it’s not related. they ask me to recreate the desktop folder, but it’s already there, etc.

  19. Comments  Marc   |  Friday, 01 October 2010 at 7:09 PM

My guess is that my registry got corrupted sometime during it’s long usage, and i need a format… what i AM gonna do though, is get a ripped version from somewhere to see if a direct play option is available, if it is, then that means the friggin installer was problematic (again, registry.)

What i recommend to everyone having this problem, is to get a ripped version from somewhere, and see if that works. if it doesn’t, then your pc is probably not compatible. if it does, you need a format to get a fresh new registry.

  20. Comments  Naota   |  Saturday, 02 October 2010 at 12:03 AM

    Hey Marc

Well that sucks I wasn’t able to get it to work for you. If it is your copy, definitely let me know too. I know the link I gave you wasn’t about Dead Rising 2 specifically, but it sounds like this error is more universal… just like the msvcr100.dll error is.

I wish you the best of luck mate! If you want me to look around some more just feel free to ask.

  21. Comments  Marc   |  Saturday, 02 October 2010 at 2:18 AM

    Hey Naota,

Bro, i really appreciate your help though. i got to the bottom of this, if you wanna spread it out.

First of all, the installation’s the problem. i just used a ripped version, and it works fantastically. but i could get the installation working (go to msconfig and enable Office source engine). my thoughts are that whoever’s getting these errors, have messed around their regs.

So either Format, do the Office source engind fix (not confirmed), or use a ripped version.

    Be cool bro, much love

Wan1 did you download and place the msvcr100.dll file in that folder? Registering it does no good if you have have the file to register.

None of the aforementioned options worked. I still get the same issue. If it matters, I am attempting to run this game through steam. I’ve also noticed when attempting to register the .dll it gives me an error message.

“The module C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\dead rising 2\msvcr100.dll was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterService was not found”

    Specs:
Operating System: Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Edition
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad

Only the second method worked for me as well. Thanks a ton, I’ve been tearing my hair off trying to get this game to work.
