Dead Rising 2 Crashes + Black Screen Fix, Freezing/Freezes Fix, Lag Fix, Sound Fix, Save Fix, Controller Not Detecting, InstallProduct Error: 0x80070643

*Update* I have added a bunch of new game fixes. Check them out!

Dead Rising 2 Game Crash Fix

Since people were so interested in the previous Dead Rising 2 Game Post I decided to put out another one. This is how you can solve the various game crashes.

If your game crashes to the desktop when you launch it, or if you receive a black screen, or even if the game won’t start:

1. Navigate to your control panel.
2. Open “Hardware and Sound” and then choose Sound.
3. On the playback tab, select your “speakers” and then click “properties”.
4. In properties, click the “Advanced” tab.
5. For “Default Format” choose “24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)”
Note: Those of you who are getting lag can try “16 bit 144100 HZ” but this may not always work.
6. Press okay.
7. Run the game. You may want to reboot first though.

Cant save game, or game controllers don’t work?
If you are running the pirated edition of this game (Shame on you!) then you will be unpleased to hear that the crack breaks saving, multilayer, and the game controller. Certain pirated versions do allow saving and the

game controller to work however. So if you are having a save problem (with the legitimate version I hope) then you must create an off-line or online Windows Live Account.

Xbox 360 Game Controller not working for Dead Rising 2?
The following directions was courtesy of Paul. Thanks Paul!

Download the Xbox360CE v2.0.2.62.
Run x360ce.exe.
Click yes to create x360ce.ini.
Load preset Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows).
Open advanced tab of controller and disable native mode.
Uncheck force feedback.
Click options.
Set FakeWMI to be EnabledUSB.
Set Fake DI to be EnabledCalback.
Check of Fake WIN Trust.
Leave the rest.
Check if your buttons/axes are mapped properly.
Save changes.

Now copy the files to your Dead Rising2 game folder.

Go to PC Settings and enable your controller (it won’t be grayed out anymore). This method works 100% everytime as long as you follow this step by step.

Dead Rising 2 has Low Volume

Try reducing volume to 80% because this could be a driver override issue.

If that doesn’t work try this.
1. Start the game
2. Minimize the game by pressing alt+tab
3. Bring up your volume settings.
4. Look for Dead Rising 2’s volume control and drag it up to the top if it is not already there.

If that doesn’t work You can go to control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Communications Tab -> choose “Do nothing”
OR
If you use windows XP you can reduce hardware acceleration or set your speakers to stereo.

How to save game without connecting to Games for Windows Live
You can create an offline account. You will not be able to play the online or get achievements though.

To create an offline account and save progress offline

2. Make sure you you are logged out. Afterwards click the “create new profile” button.
3. A dialog box pops up, make sure to NOT hit continue. In the “create gamer profile” window, scroll down to the bottom paragraph.
4. Look and click on the link that says “create a local profile”. It should be located in the last paragraph. This will will allow you to create your offline account.

Dead Rising 2 Stuck at Loading
You may have a corrupted file or game install.
If you used steam, have it verify the integrity of the cache. If not, try reinstalling from the disk.

Dead Rising 2 Brightness Bug
First check the in game setting and slide the light settings and update your drivers

It’s a shame this game has problems running for some people. Luckily, the fix to the problems is easily performed. Whether you are playing this on the PC, Xbox, or Playstation 3, it’s a great game. Enjoy playing the game! Note that the new DLC Off the Record is now out and about! So that should be fun as well.

    oh wow. I have never heard of this problem. Umm Want my save file? lol I literally just gave her Zombrex the 2nd day. That is a real bummer… I cannot find anything about it. Make sure you have the most up to date drivers, that your copy of the game is good, and stay up to date on patches.

    Hey Kasta! I am glad you found a fix. I’ll make sure to add that to the list. Thanks for letting me know. I guess we can’t be save file buddies after all =P

    Wow I will try to see what I can do about making a batch file.

    Rename rendersettings.ini , to rendersettings.ini BAK. Try playing the game it should redetect your settings. Also update your videocard drivers. You can also try putting in my game settings if you want or putting in your own.

    Mine are as follows:

    // Render Settings
    RenderWidth = 1680
    RenderHeight = 1050
    VSync = true

    Hello. I’m having a problem and havent found it in the solutions, but it seems to be pretty common, but none of my searchs in the net have had results: The game works and all, but even with low settings it goes into a kind of “Slow Motion” mode. It’s playable and it does really lag or delay, it just goes reeeeeeally slow and makes playing annoying. Anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know a fix for it ?

  28. Comments  JohnB   |  Thursday, 18 August 2011 at 3:37 PM

    I have the xbox360 version of the game, new slim system, and I’m having several issues with the game. It won’t let me install the game to my HDD, it fails at 53%. I’ve tried it an another system and the game installed fine.

    I can’t watch the cut scenes. It just shows a black screen. I can skip the cut scene and continue playing the game. The weird thing is it isn’t every cut scene. Sometimes I can view them, sometimes the audio stops, but most of the time I just get a black screen. On an older xbox360 the cut scenes played fine.

    I’m not expecting a solution, I’m just putting this here so it is known and perhaps other people have the same issue. The game is fun, it just sucks I won’t know what the story is all about.

    Hey is anyone getting random game freezing? I play for about 5-10 minutes and the game freezes for 10 seconds and then the desktop appears but dead rising can still be heard running, as if its minimized. However if i try maximize it again, the mouse disappears and the screen just stays blank with the desktop in the background.
    I’ve tried the audio change thing, doesnt help. updated graphics drivers, no dice.
    Any help would be great!

    i reinstalled it, and this time i told it not to update the game through games for windows live, so i dont have the update to use my controller and it crashes every once and awhile, BUT it is now playing for me at least, and the keyboard and mouse controls dont bother me any
