How to Fix: Ubuntu 12.10 Graphics Unknown

Recently installed Ubuntu 12.10, as my Windows 8 Consumer Preview (CP) Build 8250 expired. When it expires, Microsoft makes it so that every 1 to 2 hours your computer will restart. Basically, it’s a timebomb so that users don’t have a free operating system.

Having tried Ubuntu in the past, I thought it would be a great time to do so again. The two common versions right now are the long term support release: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (Precise Pangolin)…and Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal).

Naturally, being the “eager beaver” that I am, I went with the newer version. The amd64 (64-bit / x64) build rather than the i386 (32-bit / x86 ) build.

On my Desktop computer, which is an Q6600 Intel Quad Core Processor with a NVIDIA 8800GT graphics card, everything went smoothly. It installed well, and it booted up well.

The only caveat I had was that when I went to the “About this Computer” screen, it showed my graphics card as being “Unknown”.

This obviously bugged the crap out of me. Why would such a common card be labeled unknown? Perhaps because of this, my the “Graphics Experience” was set to “Standard”.

How to Fix: WordPress – Post Toolbar Missing OR Visual Tab Disabled

Upgrade to the latest version of WordPress (as of this post — WordPress 3.5) and notice that the post toolbar that contains buttons such as bolding, code, quotes, etc — is gone?

How about the Visual tab — is it disabled?

Unfortunately, this is what can happen on some websites that have upgraded to the most recent version of WordPress. You can fix it, however.

If you do NOT use the visual editor, then you can fix it by going to USER -> YOUR PROFILE — and then check “Disable the visual editor when writing” to disable the Visual tab. This will bring back the toolbar, oddly enough, but you will lose access to the “Visual” tab.

If you want to keep the visual tab and fix it, then first you should disable all plugins and see if the toolbar comes back. If it DOES, then enable all the plugins again and one-by-one you will need to disable each plugin until you figure out which one is causing the problem (one or MORE plugins may be incompatible with the recent update, thus causing the issue). This can fix the Visual tab if it is greyed / grayed out and not working, as well as the toolbar issue.

Hopefully this brief guide helped you to fix or troubleshoot your WordPress problem. It’s a strange bug / error, but fixable.

Petition: More Hajime No Ippo episodes

Hajime no Ippo: Season 3The anime Hajime No Ippo, also known as Fighting Spirit, was a manga – turned – anime, which started in 2000 and ended in 2009.

It was one of thte highest rated animes of all time, and continues to hold such ranking despite all the years passed.

Many have awaited a new season, but have unfortunately noticed that there has been no news about such.

The anime world would love to see more episodes, and have even recently started a petition:
Nippon Television: Please make more episodes of Hajime No Ippo

As the above shows, support for this has not wavered and there is clearly more money to make by continuing this anime. I recommend all who are interested in seeing new episodes to sign the petition, as well as get their friends to do so as well. I will be signing it myself soon as well.

It would be great if a new season was in fact created, but do note that petitions generally do not work (though a recent successful attempt was when users petitioned to bring Dark Souls to the PC — and did!). The current available seasons of Hajime no Ippo are (including OVAs):
Fighting Spirit (TV) (adaptation) ~ はじめの一歩
Hajime no Ippo – Champion Road (special) (sequel) ~ はじめの一歩 : チャンピオンロード
Hajime no Ippo – Mashiba vs. Kimura (OAV) (spinoff) ~ はじめの一歩 : 間柴vs木村
Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger (TV) (sequel) ~ はじめの一歩 New Challenger

Note that there are many rumors stating it would continue — such as voice actors signing on for an additional season. As of right now, those are NOT true. So sign the petition for support!

Borderlands 2 – Best Siren Class Build

Just like in the first game, Borderlands 2 has the Siren class. They both utilized Phase abilities — although different in nature — and I wouldn’t be surprised if Borderlands 3 sported the Siren class as well.

This Siren character is named Maya and she uses Phaselock to trap and hurt enemies. This is a great skill for when you have to solo since you can use it for crowd control.

Like the Soldier from Borderlands 1, Maya can heal by shooting and revive people with her skill (if you spec it) instantly from far away. This makes her the best support class in Borderlands 2.

However, we aren’t focusing on that, or a tank version of Maya. No — we are looking at the almighty strongest Siren build — the high damage per second (DPS) build that lets you do an incredible amount of elemental damage to unsuspecting enemies.
