21-billion-solar-panel-field

A $21 billion field of solar panels to feed China’s ever-hungrier energy grid is planned to be underway in China’s northern border province with Mongolia. To be built by US-based company First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR), it is an investment in China’s future energy security as its economy continues to develop and it finds increasingly that fossil fuels will be insufficient for its projected growth while maintaining a livable environment.

Mechcommander

mechcommander

Old school game, at least to some. I’ve picked up my copy for about $5 at a garage sale and and have come to appreciate them (FASA) making it open source software now. It’s a single/multiplayer command strategy game that has quite a few variables within it, and fun enough for me to recommend it – hey its free, what do you got to lose cept a few minutes and some bandwidth..

Visit http://mechcommander.org for mirrors. I remember connecting 56k modem to modem to play this. Good times.

Review + 2 Updated Pages

review-2-updated-pages

I wrote yet another review. This one is called Review: Virtual Villagers Series. Don’t know of Virtual Villagers? Take a look at the review anyway for screen shots and more information on this highly addictive game series. Also, Linux Distros I’ve Tried has been updated as well to include Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I was trying to determine if Google’s Android would qualify as a Linux distro since it uses a Linux kernel, but decided to leave it off. For those wondering though — Android is pretty cool. Many are weary of it, but the interface is pretty nice. It’s also open source so expect loads of coolness…Which brings me to my next updated page! Open Source Shout-Outs has been updated to include Android and MySQL.
