BusinessWeek gave the title of “World’s Best Company” to gaming giant Nintendo, after it came back from struggling numbers in 2004 to it’s current success in 2009. Nintendo is estimated to be worth about 16.8 Billion dollars (as of 2008), which actually increased about 36% since 2004. This is largely due to the great handheld success of the Nintendo DS, which helped kick off Nintendo’s resurgence.
Despite the fact that the global economic downturn, which actually dropped about 60% of Nintendo’s profits. It managed to salvage about 20% from July to September; earning about $2.66 billion and income of about $442 million.
Nintendo was chosen out of 2,500 publicly traded companies who had a minimum of 10 billion dollars of sales; 25% of which had to come from outside the home market. It was then ranked in order of sales growth and value creation over the past 5 years. Out of all 2,500 companies, only 40 were chosen.
What makes this even more impressive is the fact that Nintendo beat out Google and Apple for the top spots, as the placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Korean based companies Doosan Heavy industries and Hyundai Heavy industries rounded out the top five taking 4th and 5th. Nintendo’s rivals, Microsoft and Sony, failed to make the top 40. i still prefer Sony and XBox 360, they make some memoriable games.. FEAR (later to PC), resi 5, kingdom hearts… the good stuff.
Sony and Microsoft doesn’t MAKE the games, Foose. They get the third parties to make it for the platform. I didn’t care for RES5 (not my cup of tea), Fear (much better FPS out there), or Kingdom Hearts (too emo). BTW, didn’t you say you were gonna get a wii when the Wii Res game comes out?
Besides, Nintendo’s hardware/software components are more meant for causal gamers than the hardcore fanbase. And, as you know, casual gamers are the majority, and hardcore gamers are the niche. I mean, I dig what Nintendo has done, to an extent.
