Vrrrrmmmmmmm! That’s the sound of me driving my fancey racecar in Electronic Arts’ Need for Speed: The Run! EA did a nice job with this latest Need for Speed installment — that’s for sure. You can play it on your computer — Windows XP (sorry! Thanks John 61), Windows Vista, or Windows 7 are supported, or you can play it on your gaming console — Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, or PlayStation 3 (PS3). It’s even available on the Nintendo 3DS. Regardless, get your steering wheels ready or your keyboard and mouse for PC users.
As of this time, it is not available for Steam just yet, but it IS available on Origin instead. It will likely be released on Steamworks too though so if you prefer using Steam, then you can wait.
You may run into some Need for Speed: The Run errors when playing this game, especially if you are playing the game on a PC instead of a console. Use this game fixes guide to help you troubleshoot and solve any bugs, glitches, or other problems you’re experiencing.

Need for Speed The Run Crashes (C2D) / Launch Failure / Freezing
Are you getting a black screen after launch? Is NFSTR crashing to the desktop (CTD)? Does it freeze, hault, or stall? Rough! Try the following solutions:
— Apply the latest patch to the game (for consoles and the PC version)
— Change your resolution to something more common
— In a multiple computer monitor configuration, disable all but the primary monitor
— Upgrade your video card drivers! These provide optimization, bug fixes, and increased frame rates. You can find video card drivers here.
— Run the game in Windows XP Compatibility Mode
— Run the game under admin or administrator mode
Need for Speed The Run Lagging / Stuttering
This includes chopping frames or skipping too. Try the following fixes.
— Lower the graphics setting (i.e. resolution)
— Upgrade your graphics card drivers (AMD ATI and NVIDIA provides performance increases for games all the time). You can find video card drivers here.
— Exit all programs and disable ones that may pose problems (though not ideal, some antiviruses and firewalls cause high lag)
— Turn off AntiAliasing (AA) and VSYNC for the game
NFSTR Game Controller Not Working
Have a Xbox 360 controller, Steering wheel attachment, or some other USB device for playing this game? Good — that’s how it should be played after all. If your USB device is not working, then try the following…
— Plug in the controller BEFORE you open the game
— Unplug other USB devices that you are not using, especially if you have ANOTHER game controller plugged in
— Update your game controller drivers using the official drivers
— NFS officially support all X input / Direct X compatible controllers
— Set your options for Need for Speed The Run to what you’re using — Keyboard, Wheel Controller, etc
— This may sound odd, but unplug your mouse and keyboard! The Razer Nostromo and others are causing issues with detection and even acceleration.
— If you use Logitech software, then close Lcore.exe in task manager! This some reason causes problems for some people
There are apparently some key mapping issues too. They don’t stick or save for some people. Note that a patch is being released soon and it may help with that.
Origin Stuck at “Ready to Install”
Origin brings a whole new host of errors to installing and playing the game. Try running and installing as Admin / Administrator…Otherwise:
1) Navigate to C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Need for Speed The Run Limited Edition\\
2) Ensure that you have the executable ‘Need for Speed the Run.exe”. If it is some reason labeled as “Need for Speed the Run.exe_DiP_STAGED” then rename it to “Need for Speed the Run.exe” and try playing the game
Need for Speed: The Run – Cannot Connect to Online Multiplayer / Voice Chat Not Working
Ensure that your router and software firewalls are allowing for the following ports to send and receive / accept or make connections on the following TCP ports so that Speedwall or Autolog is able to work correctly.
TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 10011, 10021, 10031, 10051, 10061
TCP: 10071 10321, 10331, 10341, 10351, 10361, 42127
Need for Speed: The Run cars Disappearing / Reappearing in Multiplayer
This happens if you have high latency. If you are doing something such as downloading files through torrenting, then exit it. It takes up a lot of bandwidth.
Autolog Photo Error – “Photo upload failed. Please try again”
If you are taking pictures and are trying to upload them, then make sure you are actually connected to Autolog first. There’s a limit of 25 photos per account too so make sure you are not over th limit. Also note that THEIR server may in fact be offline for maintenance or because of an error.
Need for Speed The Run Sound Messed Up / Not Working
This pertains to people who have no audio or music, or crackling sound. Other sound issues exist too — such as muted or low volume, stuttering, etc. It can effect your headphones, surround sound speakers, and headsets too. Try these solutions:
— Set your Windows speaker configuration from 7.1 or 5.1 to 2.1
— Change your audio playback to 16bit 48000hz
— Upgrade your sound card drivers
— In DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Start -> RUN -> DXDIAG), go to the “Sound” tab and under DirectX Features turn off hardware sound acceleration
— Lower your Sample Rate Conversion Quality from “best” to “good” (Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Volume -> Speaker Settings -> Advanced -> Performance)

I close Lcore.exe, unplugged my G13, I close anything with Logitech un my task manager but nothing happened, the stop is active and i cant run, i cant play with my keyboard and i see Y and A or B controls in menu game.

worst EA game ever made , almost nothing works on pc, i can even start playing because it shows “console” icons buttons only when it wants . It display the buttons on the screen randomly

These console games ported to work on a pc is just a wast of time. The keyboard does not work with a Logitech G25 or G27 connected. So now you expect me to drive with a keyboard when I have the best steering available?! Crap game! Another lesson that I should rather download cracked games and only when satisfied that it works will I consider paying for one.. oh and I had to download 300MB before it works! WTF R350. for the game. 300BM @ R2.00 per MB=R950.00 to play one of the most retarded games ever! Stick it where the sun-dont-shine!

Why ? This game should work well on a old 8800 or similar card.
Playing with my dual GTX570 card and getting only 30fps, this must be the biggest joke in the “Need for Speed” history. I’m feeling a little cheated on a game experience that should have shock my world (acc. to EA). And the controls is a whole other matter, trying to mapp my G27 and the screen stills show me the buttons for a Xbox controller, it’s a little confusing try to guess what button to press in all this interacting that don’t belong in a racing game. If wanted to play GTA i would play GTA not NFS.
And like so many more here, THANKS EA! For wasting my money on a shitty product….
I’m rocking an 8800 still too. Most “recommended” hardware is always above what you really need just so that they can safety recommend it.
this is all b*llsh*t. I have DirectX 10 card and now it says I need DirectX 10.1 or higher. They need te make the minimum requirements correct!

I have an Ati 2900XT card which should run the game nicely but it doesnt have Directx10.1
But they know what they do.I will buy a new card when the Hd7000 series arrives.
Game works in a 4350 card and not in a 2900Xt!!!

I finally found the solution to the Xbox 360 controller problem. I have connected my Wiimote to the pc before, and it shows up in the Devices and Printers panel (Start>Devices and Printers) under HID-compliant game controller. Right click on the icon and select Game Controller Settings, and you will see both Bluotooth HID Port and Xbox 360 Controller provided that you’ve connected your xbox 360 controller (mine is wireless so after I press the X button it showed up in the list). Select one of the controller and click Advanced and you’ll be given a list to select your preferred device. Now I’ve done this but it doesn’t work so we’ll skip it. Close the windows and go back to the Devices and Printers control panel. Right click on the HID-compliant game controller and select Properties. Click on the Hardware tab at the top and select HID-compliant game controller, then click on Properties. On the popup window, click on the Driver tab on top, then click on the Disable button. Select Yes when the popup shows up. After this plug in or connect your Xbox 360 controller then launch the game. If you go to the controller setting and see your xbox 360 controller detected as a gamepad, then you’re all good! Don’t forget to re-enable the HID device when you want to use your Wiimote again. Hope it helps!
Full waste of money. i try to sort out all the errors but still i m unable to RUN this speed yr.
I had this problem as well… no way to play nfs the run (pc version) with any kind of gamepads (logitech, saitek….)… These gamepads can’t even be emulate as xbox 360 gamepads, using toca xbox emulator, xbox controller emulator….
I finally found a solution that work like a charm…. compiling various answers on the net about this problem.
I used the file \dinput8.dll\ found in the \x360ce vibmod 3.1.4.1\ zip file to hide gamepad from the game (put it in the game directory).
Then, I installed \xpadder 5.3\ or greater (run as administrator and compatibility for vista if you have win 7 x64 like me)
Launch NFS to check if it works (only keyboard choice in the game settings). Note the different key strokes and remap xpadder according to them
That way only I can use my gamepads and it work perfectly even with dualpad digital or analogique sticks…. there is no confusion anymore between gamepad and keyboard boutons as the gamepad is hidden from the game thanks to dinput8.dll

I have an outdated XPS Dell with dual processors but with a new graphic’s card NVIDIA 9800GT and Audio RocketFish 7.1 PCI Card and the only problem I had was installing the game with Origin. The serial # wouldn’t be accepted so I had to get another copy, uninstall Origin, reinstall Origin which installed fine. I haven’t had any other issues accept those requiring a patch to fix. It’s a great game. I love PC Games. On XBOX 360 you have to play it the hard way all the time and the same with Playstation 3. No cheats. But on PC you can use Trainers, Console Cheats and have God Mode, Unlimited Weapons, No Crash, No Damage. It’s alot more fun and worth a little inconvenience to make the game work right. Just be patient it will be worth it. Unless of course you like playing it the hard way all the time!!!!!!!

Hello, This game is facing crisis from the fan’s side ever since it was launched. Guys, Keep one thing in mind. although your PC’s satisfies the minimum system requirements, The game is especially designed for recommended system requirements only. The game appears awesome in many gameplay videos on several websites. but when it comes to minimum system requirements you need to compromise on several display settings such as V-sync, AA, texture details, shadow details etc.. but i never appeared so bad as i expected. Its not bad at all. the game runs smoothly.
My config: Intel dual core 3.0 GHZ, 4GB DDR3 RAM, XFX ATI RADEON HD 5450 1 GB DDR3 RAM, Win Vista SP2 & KB.
I didn’t configured any settings at my catalyst control centre or changed the compatabilty in the launch icon. I run the game with 800*600 resolution and rest of the display settings set to low. Even now the game is awesome. People those who use this card don’t even have to bother about AA or V-sync. They will do their best in the game.
I Just faced a simple error were the screen goes black with Loading symbol on top right corner of the monitor and the game never starts. Its bcoz a launch file “en_us” responsible to start the game is not present the game folder or it was not saved on to your game folder while installation. you can download it. Its just a 174 KB file. Other than this, I hear echo sounds only during the cinematic. that’s not a big deal bcoz this game has a worst story line.
Another important thing, never re-configure control settings. the “UP” arrow key cannot be assigned in the game. which in turn, the car will be left w/o an “accelerator” while in the road with other racers. stop arguing on controller settings & get used with as-on game ctrl settings. Car maneuver is totally different. The car makes it own way of turn always with a drift even if we don’t want the car to get drifted by sacrificing a great deal of speed. I feel they have done this to show the new set of stunts were the car flies on to a river or breaks the barricade to do multiple barrel roles..lol…which we never seen in the previous NFS series. I will not say this is a best game but a new attempt from EA were they should have concentrated in certain technical criteria.

Even though i don’t think the game runs smoothly in your card. previously I had this card Geforce 8400GS installed in my system. This card is not even fit enough to play Resident evil 5. The game was so lagging. Its the cheapest & Fan-less but possibly a worst graphics card ever when it comes to gaming.. throw it out & go for a better one..
I Have got this on my PS3 and because of the crashes and freezes on Friday 10th February i got my profile corrupt so i had to start from scratch again i wasnt very happy but i was just lucky it was double xp weekend so i caned it and now im back up to level 33 and have got most of my cars and stuff again. The funny thing is that the Autolog Servers know ive done the tracks for the challenges etc and still have me old times pitty that you can’t download them back to ure PS3 if u get ure profile corrupt then you wouldnt have to re do everything ? just a thought for you EA
There is a lag cheat that a lot of people do on this game on ps3, if you think this is something that will annoy you, do not purchase it. Most people playing are cheating, not just on pc, but on ps3. These indivials crash and do a half reset where they stay in front of you. They will tell you it’s lag if you contact EA, but I am running 20mb/s download and 15mb/s upload. I DO NOT LAG.

i have recommend system requirement. but still have the problem. this happen either on BF3 game. I started to hate EA product.

finished the game twice, only thing i dont like is the games too short.

This version of nfs really sucks on pc. Even if you have a well-running laptop, it will never satisfy your gaming experience. Really the worst nfs game.

System requirements are confirmed,but when i tried installing the CD1 it installs origin 1st and after that i can only click on install on the RUN start window..nothing happens..

Just bought nfs the run Limited edition today and installation gets to 99% and comes up with a disk error! Im so fucked off! 99% and it does that, There’s clearly a problem with disk/cd 2, dno what to do its so depressing, I phoned ea and they n.a at the moment.

hi, i have another problem on NFS THE RUN on PS3. My problem is : in a race the car that i drive decide that he dont want to shift a gear up,my car also go on lower gear but never go higher, AND IT IS AUTOMATIC. Il try all that i can do but that doesnt work CAN SOMEONE HELP ME
The Black Screen keep on loading problem is the major error for NFS users.
To Fix it, simply do this: copy the “en.sb” file from the Data folder and paste it into game direcetory/Data/Win32/Loc folder
