Disposable Laptops!

disposable-laptops

How do you think about this idea thought up by Je Sung Park?

With current flash drives being fast and having a very decent capacity, and not to mention physically small, this could actually be done.. without having both RAM & a harddisk.

Now you (refering to the creator or whoever) just need to find some way to optimize a chip that can connect the storage to the processor (which can be fairly cheap), and find a way to find cheap network devices that small (maybe bluetooth? wireless cards still are pretty big, smallest is standard usb flash drive size) and what about media? Oh guess if they can figure out networking out then that can be bypassed..

still, main issue here would be probably the LCD, which still runs with a pretty high price tag..
Interesting idea to say the least, but why disposable!?!? if those were real, i’d have like 50 of them (if they were really cheap) running around as a cluster or something lol.. what im trying to say is that I would not dispose of them. So this brings this idea to a halt now..and back to an idea such as netbooks, light and portable. (though they are getting beefier by the minute)

haha, i liked this idea at first, but now after typing out this post as I thought about it, I think it’s a total waste of time/money.

The idea itself is really cool, but yeah it would be a waste of money. Next to come would be disposable Nintendo Wii’s, woot!

It’d make the problem of e-waste a lot less of an issue, but computer manufacturers wouldn’t sign on to it and consumers wouldn’t buy it either. Unless there was some sort of viable performance gain, I don’t think people would be fans of computers that didn’t feel like significant investments, which is exactly the thing this idea is doing away with given the disposable nature of the whole thing.
