So if I were to tell you that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been one of Activision’s greatest successes as the owner of the developer Infinity Ward, you would all thank me, Captain Obvious, and then proceed to denigrate my mother.
Well, it seems that someone else has missed the memo. Behold, as Activision does the unthinkable and fires two of Infinity Ward’s lead developers on the Modern Warfare series: Jason West and Vince Zampella.
This is, for any fans of Modern Warfare, even ones that were irked by the lack of dedicated server support for Modern Warfare 2, a bit of difficult news to swallow. What fortunes now for the Call of Duty series? Activision still has a new Call of Duty title developed by Treyarch set to follow the Second World War, but for the Modern Warfare series, indeed, the entire progenitors of the Call of Duty series, the future seems a bit uncertain.
The motivations for the firing are uncertain. The SEC brief filed earlier cites “insubordination” by the two senior developers, but lacking exact details, it is difficult to say what the case is all about.
