Seriously, it’s the freaking dermal regenerator from Star Trek– the US Air Force is experimenting with a device that applies a little bit of dye to a wound, then applies not even a low-intensity laser, but a green light to it for 2-3 minutes. What results is a watertight natural sealing over the wound that speeds formation of scar tissue and can quickly seal wounds for later, more intensive treatment if necessary.
They even have a picture of Riker getting a wound zapped with the prop in Star Trek. This is the real deal, folks.
Other research underway deals with using adult stem cells to treat wounds, as well as a synthetic spray-on substance that functions as a biological lattice for skin to grow onto and prevent excessive scar formation.
