The Best Class in Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 ClassesWondering what the best class in Borderlands 2 is?

That’s the question that is on most people’s minds when they start this game — either on Windows PC (such as from Steam or DVD / CD), or via the console path — Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 (PS3).

Let us help you out by showing you the pros and cons, the negatives and positives, the good and the bad…of each class!

And after that, we’ll end with our personal opinion on the best overall class, solo class, support class, crowd control class, etc is!

Disagree with what we chose? Then please comment below and tell us why. We are open to changing our minds!

Sponsored:

Commander / Soldier (Axton)

Pros: Great solo class. Capable of deploying TWO turrets at once depending on your skilltree choices. Good for support. Turrets can fight entire battles for you while you are safely hidden.
Cons: You have to depend on your Turrets to keep alive (depending on your skill choices) so watch out for the cooldown on Sabre Turret (this can be improved depending on skill choices too and from class mods). If you played the soldier class from the first game, then you might feel bored if you’re looking for some big changes. Note though that the turrets this time around are much stronger than before.

Siren (Maya)

Pros: Very strong. Capable of obliterating enemies with fast, elemental bullet attacks. Very high DPS / damage per second so great PVP. Can Phaselock enemies to make them easier to attack / stop them from fighting. Can provide good support using skills: res, elated, restoration, and sweet release. Has some crowd control abilities utilizing Phaselock.
Cons: Really no big cons here. If I had to pick something, then it would be that she can’t tank as well as SOME of the other classes, though her shield skills help.

Gunzerker (Salvador)

Pros: One of the most fun classes to play! Using two guns at once allows for massive killing power and high DPS (damage per second). Has tanking skills available in Brawn tree.
Cons: You definitely need some good guns to utilize the Gunzerker better. He *can* be a bit vulnerable to attacks unless you choose the tanking skill tree, which will make him not as powerful damage-wise.

Zer0 / Zero (Assassin)

Pros: High damage dealing when using a sniper rifle. Sniping from a distance allows you to protect yourself from damage to your shields and hp / health always remain pretty high. Ninja sword is fun for melee attacks and his skills let him escape situations that other characters would have issues escaping from. Melee attacks are powerful.
Cons: A bit low in defense so can cause Zer0 to be vulnerable in close combat. Depending on the situation you’re in, long range combat isn’t as easy (though it is still very doable).

Mechromancer (Gaige)

This class is available through DLC / Downloadable Content (AddOn pack). If you preordered the game, then you’ll get it for free.
Pros: Great solo and support class because of the killer robot (Death Trap). Unique class. Death Trap helps kill and pick off hidden enemies.
Cons: Low gun capacity with anarchy build. Must worry about stacks. *Can* depend on robot Death Trap.

Best Borderlands 2 Class

So what’s the best class in Borderlands 2? It’s hard to say given all the available options and really depends on what you’re looking for. Are you aiming for the strongest borderlands 2 class? The best tank class? The most damage dealing class? The best solo class? The best PVP class? How about the best crowd control class?

It is MY opinion that the best class in the game is Siren. And here’s why:

— You can kill enemies VERY fast with quick bullets and elemental damage
— Phaselock lets you disable enemies that are causing you problems
— Despite lack of defense, you can get the skills Sustenance (regenerates health) and Life Tap (steals health from enemies) to help prolong your life, and along with your regenerating shields, this allows you to kill, kill, and kill some more.

She’s a good class to duo with in a party or join with a group, and can be a good hybrid class depending on the build you use.

Best Solo Class: Commando or Mechromancer
Best PVP Class: Siren
Best Crowd Control Class: Gunzerker
Best Support Class: Mechromancer and Siren
Best Melee Class: Assassin

I’d have to say the Gunzerker should be re-evaluated as the best class because he is my character, and he does regenerate health and ammo and damage he takes is reduced while “Gunzerking”

  4. Comments  Foose   |  Thursday, 27 September 2012 at 8:25 AM

ANDDDD the gunzerker can upgrade his skills so that he can throw multiple grenades at once or attract the attention of enemies with a double middle finger taunt.

Zer0 is the best actually…I do the bloodshed tree and can do like 1.1 million damage (1100k in the game) with a melee attack under the right conditions (from behind, below 20% health, in deception) and when you’re doing 1.1 million with a melee attack you can stay in deception forever almost. I also have like 41k life and regenerate health when I get a kill and while deception is active.

    Mechromancer (Gaige) isnt released yet?

  7. Comments  DarkKnightH20   |  Thursday, 27 September 2012 at 7:48 PM

No, not yet! Gaige will be available October 16th. If you pre-ordered the game, then you’ll get her then. Otherwise, you must purchase a DLC.

The developers said she is a great class for both soloing AND support. Her killer robot can attack enemies OR provide ammo, health, etc to her and her team members.

Don’t forget that Sal can regenerate ammo while zerking, practically eliminating the need to ever worry about it.

Great analysis. Agree wholeheartedly with the results.

How many enemies can you take on before going down? I’m guessing like 30+ lol
Also what class mods/other stuff do you use?

Best Solo Class: Commando or Mechromancer
    *Best PVP Class: Siren
    *Best Crowd Control Class: Gunzerker
*Best Support Class: Mechromancer and Siren
    Best Melee Class: Assassin

The best PvP class is a melee Assassin. If he uses Deception at the start, it’s one attack and you are done.
The best CC class is Siren and Mechromancer. The Siren, if built into Cataclysm with the Motion skill that draws nearby enemies to your phaselock, will deal tons of AoE. The Mechromancer, with the action skill that restores shield at the cost of life, in conjunction with a high-damage nova shield, will lolstomp the enemies.
The best support class is the Siren, followed by the Gunzerker. The Siren can remote-raise allies and heal them. The Gunzerker can piss off enemies with the bird. I don’t even see how any of the other classes can even be classified as support…

On a side note, Gaige is a close #2 for best melee class. If she can manage to stay alive she’ll dish out more damage. Even with the capstone for Bloodshed making you repeatedly use Deception as Zero, you’ll still want to wait the 5 seconds before you smack an enemy. Gaige on the other had has that double attack out of her Ordered Chaos capstone. Zero still wins it due to consistently killing an enemy every time while remaining nigh-invincible due to not being targeted.

Best pvp is axton. Deploy nuke is insta kill. Duh

  17. Comments  xMx M9 xSx   |  Sunday, 28 October 2012 at 8:13 PM

I just have to say that I think Zer0 is the best for PvP. Although PvP sucks and is not that big, he just needs to deploy his hologram and jump around for a couple (4) seconds. Then bad-a-bing, one melee/sniper shot and the enemy is dead. Combine that with strike from behind/first shot from a mag does extra damage perks and he is a one shot monster.

I know he is easily seeable when invisible but some people are idiots and cant see him. Also, if the lighting is bad, the opponent just pretty much sprays bullets everywhere in hopes of hitting you.

SIREN is by far the best. With her amazing phase-lock also amazing damage per second

  19. Comments  bob   |  Sunday, 25 November 2012 at 2:04 PM

My CD on turrets is 12 seconds and they are up for 90 seconds do to spec/gear…. I just sit under turrets sheilds and wait and so does everyone with me, it’s not direct support but no one has to do anything but sit.

My problem is that a lot of the pros require going into certain skill trees. The siren choice is kind of BS because your pros involve hitting all 3 of her skill trees which would in my opinion make it difficult to capitalize on the elemental strength you say is available, or the shield strength bonuses, or the health gain although since you seemed oriented on going far into that and grabbing some extras from other trees maybe you would recieve that benefit. Honestly I think Gaige is the best because of not just strength but also overall fun level in gameplay. I like the little big trouble skill tree. Also apparently Deathtrap can get a laser that is REALLY powerful, you seem to treat the siren like you have most skills in every skill tree which just irks me. Being capable of obliterating people with OP elemental guns is possible with any character. I have an axton with an E-tech fire SMG. Yeah faces dissolve instantaneously but the siren does have skills oriented that are helpful to elemental and SMG usage. What I’m trying to say, is that she doesn’t have everything you say she has unless you can hack to where you have enough skill points. Yes she can have strong health but only maybe another few skills or so in another tree. You don’t just have all her abilities unless you spread skills thinly.

Commando has grit and with an unstoppable pointman class mod and sham shield (or neogenator) he has 44% chance of regaining health and not die from a killshot. Sham adds 94% chance (for mine) to not be affected by bullet damage or neogenator s 86% chance of not being affected by ellemental damage. I use both for different shields but in terms of survivability and invincibility axton the commando is the strongest out of all characters so far.

Phaselock does not work in PVP. Only provides instant damage, and not enough to provide significant advantage.

Try using cunning to death blossom without ambush or stacked skill or unforseen and on bloodshed execute followthrough be like water max with ironhand that killing blows only good on first playthrough if they raise the cap zero will easily be the best many must fall and death blossom would mean almost infinite deception his healths low but he has great skills I focus on shooting and melee when close to get be like water damage however I wish I had like the wind since in fight for your life you obtain a 15% bonus or12 just to move towards enemies they shoulda put ambush in bloodshed and unforseen since most who use cunning do so for amazing damage+ 20% for 8 seconds with deathmark if like the wind was in cunning your talking insane damage bonuses

Interesting thoughts but not entirely accurate. My commando skill set does not depend on turret, in fact, the turret for me allows for maximum dps. More often than not, I deploy turret with nuke to support other players rather than myself, thus not only doing the best dps, but tanking as well. Siren is a great class for both dps and support, but I have to disagree with best pvp. Another thing, a gunzerker gunzerking has potentially best maximum dps due to wielding two seperate weapons(four weapons, if player is real good)

Personally, I think that the Commando is the best solo Class followed by the Mechromancer. For instance, the commando can deploy 2 turrets with shields that fire rockets at enemies, he can have his health increased and his shields increased. My commando has over 130k hp and 120k shields, when firing assault rifles, he fires them much faster then others, and if you get a good one, he can solo Terramorphous in less than 5mins with all the new patches. The gunzerker is alot of fun to play due to his zerker ability which lets him duel wield, its fun to run around spraying at everything with any guns possible, if you get a Grenade that does 26k damage x10 and says 2 times more awesome that means it throws 2 of them at a time. go gunzerk mode and u are throwing 4 of those grenades at a time. Thats over 1Million damage in just a grenade thrown at the cost of ONE grenade. You throw 8 of those and you guessed it. 8Million damage, and you dont have to go invisible stealth or hide to do it, just run around and FCK everything up. the Mechromancer is alot of fun to play if you max deathtrap, if u kill enemies he gains more duration, and if you set him up right at level 50 you can pretty much have him as long as you have enemies to kill. He does ALOT of damage and is good because he regenerates your shields. The Siren is really good for revives if you are playing in a group. It has great crowd control, especially if you are playing with a Gunzerker who can duel wield fire on something in phaselock. good for BA mobs and such that are normally tough to take down. The ability to revive people that are far away without having to get close to them is a sure plus. The Assassin being a sniper is always good, with the 20% extra damage you can do when you are scoped, that makes things nice when you hit a critical spot. the Stealth is nice if you get in a bad situation and need to run, other than that its not worth much, but the mele attacks are nice if you can hit an enemy from behind, but as the sniper when are you close enough to do that? So Overall If you are playing in a group, I would reccomend playing as the Gunzerker, but if you are playing solo. Go with the Commando. Its the easiest class to solo things, because you can hide behind stuff while your turret/turrets do all the work. And if you go with the Nuke. BOOOOM everything dead.

I don’t know about you guys, but the assassin is the best class to me. If you use your skill points the right way he has a higher dps than even the siren. Cunning is the the skill tree you should max out if you are sniping (do NOT use two fng) and then skill the sniper tree up to bore and you are gold

Melee Gaige with max anarchy stacks has more consistent melee DPS than Zero (also no cons as it does on your guns).

This is almost exactly what I was looking for! Although, I say this with absolute certainty, Mechromancer would be the best for soloing. Gaige’s Death-Trap is basically another person helping you out in a fight. Albeit a bit dumb sometimes, Death-Trap is almost more helpful than having an ACTUAL person with you. A few examples being his movement speed, his ability to fly, his 100% accuracy, and his fantastic ability to fly through walls. Those things, coupled with Gaige’s Anarchy, make the “Solo Team” unstoppable. >:-D

Side Note — If anyone would like to play this wonderful game with me, my Gamertag is MushyBird. My requirements are no ninja-looting everything, and no stopping every five minutes to tell the group how awesome your gun and/or character is. Oh, and no screaming curse words like a mentally disabled toddler every time you re-spawn. >_<
