Top Japanese Game Developers Talk About Natal

Three of Japanese top game designers talked about Microsoft’s project Natal and highly praised it as a revolutionary in gaming. Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi, Capcom’s Keiji Inafune, and Konami’s Hideo Kojima discussed the possibilities of Natal in a forum discussion which was moderated by Takashi Sensui, general manager of the Home and Entertainment division at Microsoft.

They discussed how the technology of Natal would revolutionize gaming, and that it could mean the phasing out of the physical controller. They also brainstorm the possibilities of how it can help out the elderly and how it can basically make the player feel more enveloped in the environment.

Editor’s Note: Personally, I am not into the hype that Natal seems to be generating from the gaming industry. It looks to be another “Eye Toy”, and the appeal is generally grafted towards the casual gamers than the hardcore based. Which is understandable, given the wide market of the casual relative to the niche market of the hardcore. Personally, I rather be a “stationary” gamer than an “active” gamer, but trends are trends. I have a feeling though that the Natal is the first step in changing the industry, and I quite possibly don’t think it is a change I will personally like.
