Flash 10.2 Released – 34 times more efficient, Multi-Screen Support

Adobe released Flash version 10.2 earlier today. With this update comes security enhancements, bug fixes, new APIs, performance enhancements, efficiency improvements and can take full advantage of hardware acceleration!

How did it become more efficient you ask? Well the new Stage Video technology that comes with Flash 10.2 that allows for easier computation for processors. This translates into battery power saving. Stage Video is basically a new flash API that has been optimized further to take full advantage of hardware acceleration and has been coded with efficiency as its goal.

According to Tom Nguyen, Product Manager for flash Runtimes:

Stage Video lets websites take advantage of full hardware acceleration of the entire video pipeline. This builds on the H.264 hardware accelerated decoding in Flash Player 10.1. Stage Video hardware acceleration means that Flash Player can play even higher quality video while using dramatically less processing power, giving users a better experience, greater performance, and longer battery life. In our testing across supported systems, we’ve found it’s up to 34 times more efficient.

But that is not all!

Users with multiple monitors can now hit full screen and have flash only fully take up one of their screens. This will allow you to still utilize your other screen while still being immersed in the other.

Additional Features quoted by Tom Nguyen:

  • Added support for custom native mouse cursors lets designers and developers create their own static or animated cursors with silky smooth responsiveness, enabling richer game and application interfaces.
  • New sub-pixel text rendering enhancements leverage Adobe typography research to further enhance text readability, especially for complex character-based languages.
  • Support is included for the GPU rendering technology in Microsoft’s upcoming Internet Explorer 9 browser.

For a full list of all the changes made in Flash 10.2, you can view the Flash 10.2 Change log here. You can also read the rest of Tom Nguyen’s Flash 10.2 Blog Post here.

if you’re using a laptop with Optimus then you’re fucked cus Flash 10.2 doesn’t let you watch the vids in full screen. And if you force the full screen the CPU gets kinda crazy and it starts using lots of resource for no apparent reason and you can’t open task manager to end it so, the only way to stop it is by restarting the OS.

Now to wait for Nvidia to fix this with new drivers cus those lazy ass bitches from Adobe aren’t going to do shit to fix their mess just like they refuse to do 64-bit plugins. Those fucking faggots knew about the bug since when this shit was in beta cus lots of people reported it but they didn’t care and went ahead with the RC and now they released the “official” stable release.

lol. Your anti-adobe thoughts are well appreciated. They really have brought their flash demise onto themselves. The day that Macromedia joined with Adobe I died a little on the inside.

No BSOD on my end from multiple machines. I think this problem effects a small group of people.
