Oddly enough, this can be due to a file association. Perform the following.
Step 1. Update Windows Media Player to the latest version. Install it if you don’t have it.

Step 2. Associate WMV files with Windows Media Player.

If that still does not fix your problem

Step 3. Update your codecs. I recommend downloading K-lite Mega Codecs.
Step 4. Update your video card drivers. Click here to find the latest Nvidia and AMD video card drivers by clicking on their respective names here.
Step 5. Reboot

The game has stopped at the Salvation Mission Fusion Accelerator Level

Solution from RDeejay (thanks mate!) There is a room where you have to fight a wardroid and chronies, there will be a destroyed door on the other side of the room with the canister on the floor for the door on the left, now if you turn around the door you just came through will have a powered canister as well, destroy the enemies and take that one with you. This room is the last fight before you reach the elevator you have to force grip so make sure you have it with you before force gripping the elevator and dropping down, keep taking the canister to the room with all the cannons and stick it straight in and and power up the broken cannon, blow up door and run away from fight if too scared lol

Starwars Force Unleashed II(2) Lags/Stutters, Video Is Choppy, and/or No Video Plays at all

This game can run at 30FPS max. If you believe you should be hitting 30 FPS and meet the system requirements, and/or have any of the other problems listed, then follow the following steps.

Step 1. Update your Videocard to the latest version. Click here to find the latest Nvidia and AMD video card drivers by clicking on their respective names here.

If that does not solve your problem

Step 2A. ATI Users: Disable Catalyst A.I through the Catalyst Control Center (CCC).

Open Catalyst Control Center.
Click on graphics, then select “3D” in the drop down menu.
Click on “A.I.” and then click “Disable Catalyst A.I.” and hit apply.

Step2B. nVidia Users: In the nVidia control panel disable “force Vsync”.
Step 3. Reboot and launch the game.

Starwars Force Unleashed 2 (II) Does not Load

Step 1. Update windows media player to the latest version.
Step 2. Install the latest codecs via K-lite Mega Codec Pack.

If that does not work still and you use ATI Cards, disable Catalyst AI.

How to Change the Language of Subtitles and the Menu to English

Step 1. Go to start menu -> Run (or windows+r) and type “regedit”.
Step 2. Navigate to

HKey-Local_Machine\Software\Wow6432Node\LucasArts\Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2

Step 3. Edit the language from “ru” or whatever abbreviation, to “en”

StarWars Force Unleashed 2 USB Controller/Mouse/Keyboard Issues

Option 1A – Remove all external usb devices or
Option 1B – If you don’t want to disconnect your devices, disable them by going to

control panel -> Device Manager -> Human Interface Devices -> HD-Compliant Game Controller

and then click disable and hit okay. Do this for each controller that is in the list. Remember to re-enable them if you want to use them in the future.
Option 2. Update your game and hope for the best.

If you still can’t use your keyboard/mouse then the only current solution is to get a PS/2 keyboard.

I’m having the exact same problem as loop and I’m not sure how to fix it :S

I’m stuck in the Battle for Salvation. Note: Playing the PC version.

After battling the boarding parties in the cannon room, I’m supposed to be able (at least according to the walkthroughs of the console version) to go to the far room and extract the fuse from the last cannon and bring back to the main room and put into the cannon on the floor. This to blast open the half open door the next area. But, it’s not letting me extract the fuse. I can shoot the cannon all day long, but no option to remove it from any angle. Tried various option with the first cannon, but it always ends up destroyed by the tie fighter. Nor, have I had any luck in trying to get the fuse from the previous room.

As anyone else had this problem and know a fix? I’m pretty much hosed at the moment.

Found the answer on the Lucas Forums. Looks a lot of people have had this problem. Restarted the entire level and was able to pull the fuse from the cannon.

“…item one fifty one on today’s glitch list…”

Alternate solution for Battle for Salvation in case you encounter the bug repeatedly:

There is a room where you have to fight a wardroid and chronies, there will be a destroyed door on the other side of the room with the canister on the floor for the door on the left, now if you turn around the door you just came through will have a powered canister as well, destroy the enemies and take that one with you. This room is the last fight before you reach the elevator you have to force grip so make sure you have it with you before force gripping the elevator and dropping down, keep taking the canister to the room with all the cannons and stick it straight in and and power up the broken cannon, blow up door and run away from fight if too scared lol

This one seems like a shader bug of some sort… On Kamino, the little canisters that are supposed to be shiny glass are flipped inside-out, and are opaque/black. Same with the ones that have clones inside of them…

Hey… What the heck is “Kazaa Mega Codec Pack” ..?? and *where* can we get it?

I tried Google of course, but just get a bunch of stupid search engine results, or the page is MIA, or some K-Lite stuff, but no “Kazaa Mega Codec Pack” in sight…? Why mention it and not provide any hint/clue as to where/what it is, nevermind an actual link..?

  14. Comments  Naota   |  Wednesday, 10 November 2010 at 10:06 PM

Thanks for pointing that out. I actually referred to the name incorrectly since it use to be bundled with kazaa lite. If you type “K-lite Mega Codec Pack” or “Kazaa Mega Codec Pack” into google it is the first result. Alternatively you can find it here. I will go ahead and update the post and include the link. =)

I can not get the energy canister out of the gun in the Salvation Mission going to the bridge where one canon gets destroyed and you need to take it out of the second canon to put in the one on the floor to blow the door. I watched the walk through but I just cant grab the canister. Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi same problem as loop & Meo & Frits is there any hint. A am starting game and after that black screen and then “In application SWTFU2.exe …” in short it crashed with clasic windows error. Have instaled SP2 Codec aktualized WMP and System Requirements are OK for me. Thanks for any help.

  19. Comments  1NERT1A   |  Thursday, 09 December 2010 at 12:56 PM

same issue as loop and Frits any solution? installed ALL codecs and nothing works. dbl click on the SWTFU2.exe and nothing happens… the process comes up on task manager for like 5-10 seconds an then goes away?? WTF

  20. Comments  inertia   |  Thursday, 30 December 2010 at 6:07 PM

On one of the startup crashes (like loop or frits) the error came up as ‘failed to create directx device’ and the solutions offered were one of the ones here. I disabled force v-sync, unticked detailed textures, (etc then reboot) but the only thing that was gone was the error pop-up and the crash was still at start-up. sigh. I have a 9400GT plus a core2Quad with 4GB RAM, Win7 ultimate 64/32 bit.

I’m the complete opposite of most of these guys. I can hear the audio but i have no image. If i hover my cursor over the icon i can see it playing but i can’t maximize it to play. Any ideas? thanks.

Just wanted to say thanks, I managed to solve my black screen problem following your advice (associating .wmv video with WMP, and downloading the latest codecs). Now I have a slow frame rate issue and slight lagging, but at least I can actually play the game. So, thank you for taking the time to write this guide !

Hi all! After the first video ends my game loads a minute and after the loading ends the game. Pls somebody can help me? 🙁

  24. Comments  Loren   |  Monday, 19 September 2011 at 7:09 PM

Is it possible to set up the controls so as to not use the mouse? I would prefer to just use the keyboard and be able to change the screen angle with buttons on the keyboard instead of using the mouse.

  25. Comments  Sejersen   |  Tuesday, 13 December 2011 at 1:02 PM

Hmm… I just bought it through Steam. And The Force Unleashed 1 runs perfect(Minor sound bugs) but I get black screen instantly following a crash back to Desktop.

I got Nvidia GTX 570 and 16GB ram and my other installments are also “top notched”. So I guess what I’m asking is, what am I doing wrong here? 🙂

  26. Comments  Sejersen   |  Tuesday, 13 December 2011 at 1:11 PM

Okay, Through Windows “TroubleShoot Combatibility” I got the game startet, but that is only through that I am able to do so. And only once it seems… sigh.. back to square one.

  27. Comments  Zeb   |  Tuesday, 24 January 2012 at 6:59 AM

I had the same issue as Sejerson on Windows 7 64 bit. The fix, for me, was to go into the Properties, on the Compatibility tab, check “Disable Desktop Compostion”. This at least lets the game load.
