Prototype 2 Crashes Freezes BSOD Tearing

Wait a minute, you aren’t Alex Mercer! Hey! That is right. Prototype 2 is a based on a whole different character! You play as… *game crashes*. Ah.. f**k!!!

So many of you might experience some crashing and errors with this game. A lot of these problems on the PC should be similar to the original Prototype as well. Let’s see if we can go ahead and help you out. This serves as a guide till the PC official comes out. Also any lingering console problems will be added here as discovered as well.

Prototype 2 stops loading and will not start

This may sound counter-productive, but try playing off the disk. If you are playing off the disk try installing it.

Prototype 2 has Screen Tearing, and Artifacts

Option 1: Update to the latest NVIDIA and ATI Video Card Drivers. You can find links to the latest drivers here.
Option 2: Try disabling SLI or Crossfire if you have this set up.
Option 3: Disable V-Sync.
Option 4: Try to disable AA and lower game settings.
Option 5: Wait for new patches.

Prototype 2 has Black Screen

Step 1.Try setting your affinity to 1 core, or 2 cores. You can do this by hitting control+alt+delete and choosing a process and hitting “set affinity” after right clicking.
Step 2. Another way to fix this error is to download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86).
Step 2. Now reboot and then try launching the game.

Prototype 2 Freezes

These problems can be the same as the, “Never Stops Loading” problems. Go with those fixes.
Option 1: Try disabling SLI or Crossfire if you have this set up.
Option 2: Disable V-Sync.
Note: If this only happens after an extended period of time, please go and check your temperatures.

Prototype 2 Never Stops Loading

There can be a few reasons for this. This happened on the first game too.
Option 1: Reboot your computer and try playing the game after loading back up. Yes I know this is generic but try it. It actually fixed the problem for a ton of people on the first game.
Option 2: Update to the latest NVIDIA and ATI Video Card Drivers. You can find links to the latest drivers here.
Option 3: If you purchased this game through Steam, verify all your Steam files are in-tact. There are plenty of times where you will have corrupted files and may have to re-install.
Option 4: Lower all your settings and try again. (Your computer is weak yo!)
Option 5.: Try running the game in combabitibility mode.
Option 6: Disable V-Sync.

LOL.. what more proof do you need that this game is a ultra-low-effort. they did not even bother with any quality assurance… why? because they got the indifferent gamer-community who is going to buy anything that is marketed well enough. i said it before and i’ll say it again: BOYCOT ANY SEQUEL. the gaming-industry would be a MUCH better place if gamers started to give signals to such low-efforts like prototype 2 and all the other halfhearted sequels that get squeezed out for the quick buck.

My issue is it runs fine but after about an hour and a half I get some pretty annoying lagging which inevitably leads to freezing, and if I task manager and force it to close, it “stopped working correctly” and I have to sit through three messages that take forever where it asks if I’m SURE I want it to close or wait for some shiny solution to fall from the sky. P.S. This is on a lovely quad-core that doesn’t do hyperthreading but only has issues with AC Brotherhood and Skyrim, and hardly that much at that. -_-

Okay I’ve been on steam forums, there is a pc issue with memory leakage that isn’t just a gradual thing. One fix for this on mainly 64 bit operating systems that should work, I’ve yet to verify yet myself can be found here. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2844357&p=32004189 “”Possible fix for the “memory leak”
I think i found the memory leak problem , it isnt a memory leak
its a setting on 64 bits windows, if thats changed a time then the problems start to happen.
it has to do with Data Execution Prevention (DEP) and Physical Address Extension (PAE)
IF you are having the “memory problem”
chances are PAE is not forceenabled
To set dep off and pae on use these commands in a “command window”

    bcdedit /set nx AlwaysOff
    bcdedit /set pae ForceEnable

But first do a check about how your settings are by typing

    bcdedit

and look if this 2 lines show
    nx AlwaysOff
    pae ForceEnable

In my case the memory use stays now at 1.0 / 1.2 gig

Test these commands out to see if it helps with the crashing of the game.

The info about the how to i got from this site:

    msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff542275%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

    BTW: i am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bits ” ~jackbig~

Okay, it barely decreased the issue, another way to fix this issue for ATI Vid Driver kiddies is to download the 12.7 beta drivers and try those, thats what i’ll be testing now to hopefully get results. Peace.
