How to run – Call of Duty: Black Ops II on Windows 8

Need to fix CoD: Black Ops II so that it will work on Windows 8?

No problemo!

This works for both Windows 8 64-bit, Windows 8 32-Bit, and even the Consumer Preview copy.

Try the following game fixes below (works on normal copies of the game, Steam copies, and Origin copies).

Solved: Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Windows 8

First, upgrade your video card drivers so that you have the latest NVIDIA, ATI, or Intel graphics card drivers.

Next, install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (32-bit, 64-bit). If you were missing this DLL, then the game will now run fine and you won’t experience launch failure anymore.

If it isn’t running, then locate the included DirectX install that comes with the game and make sure to … install it!

If your game is crashing or has a black screen (or simply doesn’t launch still — as in nothing happens), then run the game in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode. If that doesn’t work, then oddly enough trying in Windows 98 compatibility mode MAY work for you, as the emulation is done differently. If it does work for you, then expect some lag from it, which can be reduced by loading Task Manager after the game is opened and locating the process. Set the affinity so that ALL cores are checked and running.

It should also be noted that a recent Windows 8 update did cause this game to not function properly for some people, so uninstalling this update may cause success.

Fix: Cannot Connect – Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Can’t connect to other people in CoD: Black Ops II? It could be NAT issues with your router or even software issues.

— Enable gaming mode / open on your router
— Disable your Firewall
— Enable ports 4500, 3478-3479, and 3658 for both TCP and UDP
— Run game in Admin / Administration mode

Easy fix for an annoying problem! Hopefully you can connect to multiplayer with your friends now.

Fix – Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Lag and Slow Loading Times

This game is great! That is, once you solve any bugs of errors you are experiencing.

If the game is lagging for you, it isn’t necessarily because you have old hardware.

Your Operating System (OS) doesn’t matter too much either. The game should run perfectly on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and also Windows 8 (including Consumer Preview).

This…is actually a driver issue for most people. And while you hear that updating your drivers solves issues for most games, in this case, it actually does. So if you keep encountering slow map loading or keep getting disconnected from the server because of the lag (or even are on Probation for quitting games too much) then…

Follow the suggestions below to fix your game! Works for multiplayer issues AND single player. Also, this of course applies to Steam copies of the game as well.

— Update your drivers (NVIDIA, ATI / AMD, Intel, etc) to the LATEST version
— Reboot
— Go to the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD / ATI Catalyst Control Center
— This is primarily if you have more than one graphics card (such as an integrated graphics card AND a dedicated one — as seen in many laptops or notebooks) — set your global settings and application settings (such as under Manage 3d setting)
— Disable Sync Every Frame (VSYNC)
— Turn off shadows
— Turn off Ambient Occlusion
— Set Textures to Automatic

Collectively, it should improve your game’s performance.

How to Fix – Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Mouse Sensitivity / Acceleration

Perhaps one of the most annoying errors and bugs encountered by PC users playing games like CoD: Black Ops 2, is that the mouse sensitivty can be either too high or too low.

This issue is further difficulty to deal with when using a high DPI mouse.

Normally, this is easily dealt with by altering the included config / configuration file included with the game (including on Steam copies)…But unfortunately, the config file is encrypted for whatever reason.

To deal with this mouse acceleration problem, the best way of going about it is via the steps below.

— Turn off Sync Every Frame (also known as VSYNC, disable to reduce input lag)
— If using a console version of the game (or PC) with a HDTV, be sure to set your TV / Monitor to GAMING mode (solves stuttering issues)
— Upgrade your graphics card drivers to latest NVIDIA / ATI drivers (as of this time — beta drivers)
— Set your FPS limit higher -> 60
— Those with TWO graphics card (i.e. an integrated graphics card + a dedicated graphics card) will want to set their computer to use the dedicated card

Note that for some people, this problems is also worse during single player rather than multiplayer.

Fix – CoD Black Ops II: Mouse Lag When Aiming Down Sight

The game may run perfectly for you in general, but lags you once you start trying to aim.

This isn’t entirely a mouse acceleration / input problem, but rather a Call of Duty Black Ops 2 lag issue from the game itself.

To help improve or fix your aiming situation, you’ll want to do the following steps below.

Do note that future game patches will also help this issue and provide greater compatibility with people’s mouse and keyboard situations, as well as hardware specs.

— Turn off Shadows
— Turn off Ambient Occlusion
— Set Texture to AUTOMATIC instead of having it set as extra
— Turn off Sync Every Frame (like VSYNC)
— Lower your resolution
— Upgrade to latest NVIDIA / ATI / Intel drivers (they have released updated drivers for improved support for this game and it solves bugs, glitches, and lag issues)

It may not fix the problem entirely for you, but it WILL improve it.

This has been tested on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and also Windows 8 — with noticeable improvements on each.
