Today marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the Sega Mega Drive, most popularly know in North America as the Sega Genesis. It was the console that introduced the now legendary Sonic the Hedgehog series. It also is know for such games as: Gunstar Heroes, Altered Beast, Golden Axe series, Shining Force series, Street of Rage series, Echo the Dolphin series, Ristar, Comix Zone, Phantasy Star series, Vectorman series, and many more. In its entire life-span, it has sold over 29 million units world-wide. It’s best selling game was Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which sold over 6 million copies.
The Genesis has a more personal meaning for me, since it was my first system that was “officially” mine. I remember playing Sonic and Knuckles 3 like crazying back in the hey-day. Such great memories this system has given me, and I’m proud to have owned one. Congratulations Genesis!
